Parable of Weeds, Grubs and the lawn beetle… Amanda Byliefeldt

Parable of Weeds, Grubs and the lawn beetle…

Just like Nicky, I was moving house. I just moved from a small town to the city, venturing from the known to the unknown. With a move comes hard work…packing and unpacking, finding a new spot for everything, inside and out.

At my new house I have three segments of lawn, seemingly green and luscious, but that is not the whole truth. On closer inspection I found that there are many things wrong with these segments of lawns, one worse than the other.

Daddy Yahweh started to speak to me through the HOLY Spirit about the condition of the lawn vs the conditions of sons’ and daughters’ hearts, their spiritual lives, including mine.

Just like God spoke to Jeremiah about the almond branch, HE spoke to me and said “What do you see?”

I said, “The lawns are infested.”  The infestation ranges from grubs or lawn beetles eating away at the healthy grass, to weeds growing all over the lawn, restricting the growth of the grass. The Holy Spirit started to speak to me and said: “even though the grass looks green and beautiful, it has problems. My sons and daughters’ spiritual lives are the same.  It may seem perfect, but when you compare it to the Word of God there are many things that are not lining up with the word of God.”

Take for instance the dandelions growing on the lawn.  They are green, just like the grass, but they spread and restrict the grass’ growth. Even though they have this beautiful yellow flower that can be used for good, it still is not lawn.

The dandelion represents this – something that look green and close to grass, but is not. It may even have a beautiful yellow flower that may be useful, but it still isn’t grass.

The word of God says in Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

Search your heart and make sure that you are doing the things the Holy Spirit leads you to do; and with the right motives. God sees the heart of man, nothing is hidden. Don’t deceive yourselves.

James 1:22-25 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it–not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it–they will be blessed in what they do.

The yellow flower can speak of the glory, but we need to have discernment to know the real thing from a counterfeit.

1 John 1:14 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Allow Daddy Yahweh to show you what needs to be weeded out of your life for you to become who HE has meant for you to be. He has a plan and a purpose for each of us and it is good.

1 Peter 1:16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

In order for us to become holy we need to take a look at ourselves and weed out the things that are restricting our growth…things that seems good, but it is not of God. A good thing is not necessarily a God thing. Even if we do good things, with the wrong motive it will not make it through the fire.

The best way to get rid of weeds is to take them out roots and all. Sometimes you need to dig deep to get the roots, but if you deal with them early, a little pull is all that is needed.  Likewise, we need to remove sin from our lives, roots and all. Sometimes it takes effort to get to the roots and sometimes it is simply a little tuck.

The lawns also have some hidden insects eating away at it, like the grubs and the lawn beetle I found.  They stay hidden, but they cause havoc on your lawn. They will eat away at the new growth, leaving your lawns bare and dying.

These insects represent the things we dare to ignore because nobody sees them or we desire it. We love to hang onto the secret sin or attitude and ignore the Holy Spirit’s correction.  It does the same damage as the beetles and grubs…it will eat away at the all new beginnings and new growth God starts in you. It will stop you from growing and coming into fullness and leave you spiritually bare, unfulfilled and dying.

James 1:15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Let us be led by the Spirit of God through discernment to be good care- takers and weed out the weeds in our life that are counterfeits – good things but not God things, and kill off the bugs that kill our spiritual growth.

Romans 8:12-13 “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”
